  1. a lot of community colleges offer free classes to learn English.

plus the latinos come here, and majority of people speak english, so they should learn english.  we shouldn't have to learn to benefit them.

  2. I'm sure there are many organizations that will help those who want to learn to speak English. I also know that I am not responsible for providing courses for non-English speaking people. If I moved to Mexico I would have to learn Spanish on my own. Watching television, listening to the radio, and interacting with other Spanish - English speaking people is a good way to learn the language. My spouse is from Asia and learned to speak, read, and write English very well, without any formal training; there was a desire to learn. A large number of people from Mexico do not want to learn English, much to their disadvantage.

  3. Can't see why you can not fine classes that support English as a second language. You can find them at your nearest community college, or  your local library and find a learning tool that teaches you to speak English through audio. Just like books on Tape.

  4. You arent looking hard enough.

  5. try the local community college

  6. I think what most people mean is they should make an effort. Some people live here and never try to learn and it costs plenty to have someone else attend every legal or medical situation that might arise. So, if they can't learn why do they come...the language is English. They have books, the library has videos and taped books, there are adult education classes and in most southwestern states they require it to be taught in school. If they spend as much effort on learning the language as they spend getting to become a citizen they need to learn the language as well as they can. It's only right. We can't be everything to everyone. Maybe you can volunteer and start a learning class in the area where you live. That might be good. Older people have a harder time and it can cause problems if they have medical problems and it takes hours to get someone who can translate to a Dr. that isn't very good...then they'd probably sue if they died or got worse. I just think I shouldn't be asked to push #1 when I make a phone call....they should. This is still America and we speak English!

  7. Many people came here before there was such a thing as English classes and learned the language. Books and Cd's are available at cheap prices, they can even be be purchased at a thrift store for a few dollars. TV is actually not a bad way to learn, the governor of CA. did it that way.

  8. There are plenty of English courses in AZ and most are free.  If people really want to learn English, which they should if they respect the U.S. (sadly many don't), then there are more than enough free classes to teach them.  It's a willingness to go that's the problem.

  9. Go to any bookstore there are plenty of courses, books and tapes.Very weak excuse.
