Learn to take down Sweet Lightning in order to claim the Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes
The one to look out for in the Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes (Listed Race) is the three-year-old bay colt, Learn. The listed race has brought together entries from highly diverse backgrounds, some who have raced in graded company, those who will race with the graded company in a listed race for the first time and then an entry who just broke lose from a hurdle maiden.
The mile and 100 yard race will be held at Killarney on Thursday, 30th August and will be contested by nine runners who are three-year and above. The prize money set for the race is €26,000.
The Aidan O’Brien trained will have to take down the 5 to 2 entry for the race, Sweet Lightning. Galileo’s bay colt has been active five times during the new season and has won once through the outings. One of the starts ended up in a runner-up’s position at Killarney.
His seasonal debut was on 10th June, 2012 in the Coolmore Stud China Ireland Friendship Silver Stakes (Listed Race) at Curragh over a mile and two furlongs. He ended fifth as the race was won by the favourite entry, Sharestan, by just half a length.
Surprisingly, the Michael Tabor & Derrick Smith & Mrs. John Magnier owned lost his very next race to Sharestan and that too at Curragh. The winner was entered as the favourite in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship Celebration Stakes (Listed Race) on 30th June, 2012 at Curragh over a mile.
Learn improved to a third position as compared to the fifth in the seasonal debut. He was paired up with jockey, C. O’Donoghue.
The first seasonal experience of the bay colt out of, Kentucky Warbler, at Killarney was on 17th July, 2012 in the Easy Clean Ltd. Race over a mile and half a furlong. Croi An Or shoved the favourite entry of the race into the runner-up’s slot while leading by head’s margin.
The Irish bay colt won the Michael Higgins & Co. Race on 25th July, 2012 at Naas over a mile. In the hands of the ever capable rider, Joseph O’Brien, Learn landed the race by the margin of 2 ¼ lengths.
The entry is backed by 6 to 1 odds and will race from the first gate.
