Question:

Learner's Permit and Insurance?

Hi everyone,

I just reached the 6 month point on my Level 1 Learner's Permit which means I am allowed to drive unsupervised. Considering the fact that I still technically only have a "Learner's Permit," do I need to be added to my parents insurance policy when I drive their car unsupervised? I read online that having a learner's permit means that I do not need autoinsurance for myself, only for the car (which is insured). I also saw that it's very difficult for me to obtain insurance until I apply for my full license.

Help please

  1. This is one of those very tricky situations that all depends on your auto insurance carrier.  If you are driving unsupervised, whether its a learners permit or not, most companies require you be added to the auto insurance.
