I am going to start my A-levels in 2 weeks time and will study A-level maths. but i have'nt done maths for over a year because i took a year off after i did my GCSE's in 2007.

I just wanted to know if theres a way of learning A-level Maths from home? please note i dont want to revise i want to learn from the begining. as it will help when i start next week.

When i start my A-levels am i expected to know most of the stuff or will they teach us?

thank you

  1. I've just got my GCSE results and i got a grade C in maths (i took the higher paper). I was a little disappointed because i was hoping for a B but my sixth form have said that aslong as i get a C or above and work hard, i'll do fine in A Level maths.

Anyway, my advice to you is: you hear all the time that a levels are different to GCSE (you learn new things). So i think everything you do in A Level maths you will be taught, and even if you get stuck you can always ask for help or stay behind to ask if you won't!

    Dont worry x

  2. I've just finished my AS level in maths and got a grade C...compare that with my A* grade at GCSE and you can see that A-level is much harder than GCSE however I didn't really revise for AS, plus I'm naturally not that good at maths...so it's not that terrifying, if you revise, you will be able to get the grade you want.

No one is going to expect you to know the A-level content....how can they? you haven't been taught it. The teachers will teach you, that's their job. Don't worry about doing any extra learning....just wait till your term begins. There's no way you will be able to learn anything useful in two weeks anyway. Just enjoy the rest of your summer....x

  3. I have tutored many kids in 'A' level Maths, and it is hard for everyone, so don't fret just yet, but do have a tutor lined up to reinforce stuff you might not get the first time in class.  I eventually used to pass my tutees over to a full time 'A' level teaher, because even I, the great Amustapha, used to have to prepare!!  It is going to be tough, but stick with it.  Job wise, it pays dividends.
