I know there are these three divisions of special education services. I was in the Autism division. What is the determining factor for the student's placement in each division, and what is the difference between these divisions?

  1. I know that in order to be placed in Special Ed their are criterias one must meet in order to fall under those guidelines. Special Ed can also be speech impaired, death, I guess everything depends on which state one lives in.

  2. 3 divisions?  What about Deaf/Blind?  Other Health Impaired, Traumatic Brain Injury and Mental Retardation?  There are a over 10 ways a child can be eligibe for special education services according to US federal law.

Your state determines what makes a child eligible for placement, so I suggest looking at your state's department of education for the procedural guildlines.  I've worked in 3 different states with 3 different rules for how children qualify as LD, and don't even get me started on Autism.

  3. Well i have a LEARNING D. and i was placed in special ed when i was a kid and in high school because my math skills were slower than others and nothing wrong with that.
