My 6 year old step daughter has recently been writing some of her numbers and letters backwards, has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

Previously since the age of three she has been doing them correctly, but since she started school this has been happening. I am not blaming the school but I was wondering if anyone has heard of anything like this.

  1. It is age appropriate for a six year old. Keep an eye on her to make sure that she isn't having problems otherwise.

Is she reading as well as the rest of the children in her class? And is she able to do her work? comprehend the material?

Just remind her of the correct way to form the letter.

My son is five and he still does this too. SD

  2. Yes it's called dyslexia and you should get her tested for it.

  3. my 8 yr old sometimes gets her b's and d's mixed up. The teacher will mark it wrong. She is working on it. At 6 my girls did the same thing and my oldest was in gifted classes by third grade

  4. yes my 8 year old does it sometimes still.  The teacher said don't worry about it, alot of kids do that and will eventually stop that

  5. It's completely normal. A lot of children do this. It does not mean that they are dyslexic or have any particular learning difficulties, it's usually just a normal learning process.

  6. This is developmental and a phase she will most likely grow out of, especially if she was writing them the right way before. Maybe you could ask her why she is writing them backwards. If you are really concerned talk to her teacher. But many children write some of their letters and numbers backwards in their beginning years of school. By the end of second and third grade she should be fine! I would not go an label her with dysgraphia right away but it might be a possibility Good luck!. I doubt your child is actually LD but if you are really worried speak to her teacher and/or the special education teacher at the school. Good Luck!
