  1. Someone who is considered to be of 'normal intelligence' or 'above average intelligence' who experienced school failure, with no explination or reason (except perhaps lazyness) would be call an 'underachiever'.

Someone who is considered to be of 'normal intelligence' or 'above average intelligence' who experienced school failure, because of 'blocks' in certain areas of their learning (for example: memory, reading comprehension, fine motor skills, ect) would be called 'Learning disabeled'. These people do not have to experience failure.

Some who is of 'below average intelligence' (regardless of school failure) in considered 'mentally disabled'.

Individuals give many explanations for their failures. Some of these are true, and others are not. Sometimes it os obvious, other it is not. Someone may claim to be learning disabeled (and it may be true, but that doesn't mean they can't succeed), they may say they are lazy, they may claime to have had a poor teacher, they may claime to have never leaned these skills, they may claime 'they forgot' or any other excuses.

There are many learning strategies that aid memory. It will realy depend what type of memory you want to use.

For example, to help you remeber what you have read, write a summary of  each chapter (or page if need be) and quiz yourself on it.

Sometimes repetition aids in memory. Repeating (or rewriting) something again and again, day after day will help it stay in your long term memory.

    Good luck, hope I've helped.

  2. children withnon-verbal learning disableities may have some difficulties but they are extremely smart growing up my sister had one and she has a 172 iq and a 98% average .

  3. There are different terms that are used.

    Learning Disabled

    Academically challenged

  4. academically challenged?

    learning disabled?

    lazy?

  5. A learning disability can reveal a learning ability.

Picture thinkers (aka non-verbal thinkers or visual-spatial learners) are the ones who end up with the learning disability label.  (It seems like a new label pops up every day.)  There are countless labels for what is really a learning style-picture thinker.

Picture thinkers do not necessarily learn with word methods.  Most teachers teach using word methods because it is assumed that everyone can learn with these methods.  When students experience failure, they get the learning disabled label.

Picture thinkers are at least average in intelligence and many are above average.

Why do I say the learning disability can reveal a learning ability? Here are some of the gifted and talented who are picture thinkers who have the label of dyslexia:

    Thomas Edison

    Albert Einstein

    Whoopi Goldberg

    Jay Leno

    Keanu Reeves

    Kiera Knightley

    Robin Williams

    Leonardo da Vinci

    Tommy Hilfiger

    Pablo Picasso

    Muhammad Ali

    Magic Johnson

    Henry Ford

    William Hewlett, Co-Founder, Hewlett-Packard

    Walt Disney
