I really want to learn acoustic guitar but i'm really worried i'll find it too hard, so i have a few questions..

I know it depends on the person but, it is easy to learn?

How much does it cost to learn in the uk?

Is it expensive to buy all the stuff you need to play e.g stings, guitar ect?

Do you have to have short nails to play guitar?

If you go to have lesson (outside of school) do you have to take your own guitar or do they provide one?

When having lessons do you use your fingers or guitar picks?

I'm 14 btw..

  1. Easy?  No. It takes work and patience to build high speed and train muscle memory. I recommend Troy Stetina lead guitar.

You'll change strings once a month, and they're about $6-8.

Yes you need short nails. Yes you have to take your guitar to practice. I use guitar picks, and I suggest starting with them and following your teacher's instructions. Regular practice can get you good~ in a few months.

  2. Question 1)  Is it easy to learn?

                                          You've already answered this question

Question 2)  How much does it cost to learn in the UK?

                          What ever the instructor charges.

Question 3)  Is it expensive, etc.

Guitars come with strings already on them.

Straps are usually less than $20.00 American.

                          Pick are cheap

Instruction books can be priced anywhere

                          from $10.00 to $35.00 American.

Question 4) short nails to play?

In my experience, short nail makes it much

                          easier to fret the guitar.

Question 5)  Normally instructors require you to have your

                          own instrument.

    Question 6)  fingers or picks?

Normally you will learn to play with a pick.

I belileve that it would depend greatly upon

                          the instructors preference

  3. Acoustic guitar is fairly complicated to learn. Its mainly memorization of chords and scales, which can be challenging.

Lessons can cost anywhere from $10-25 an hour in america, so probably around the same in the UK.

An acoustic guitar you can get for around 100pounds. strings are about 5 pounds per set. (I know because i bought a guitar in London)

Yes you need to have short nails. They don't have to be stubs, but itll be very hard to play with long nails.

If you get lessons at a music shop, they will provide you a guitar, but its always best to buy your own. If you go to a private lesson, you will need a guitar.

In a lesson you will be learning with guitar picks. Finger picking is much more advanced.

I'm 14 too! Been taking guitar for a while and this is what i've learned.

  4. I can answer a few of these..

playing guitar is easy to do, but hard to do well. it takes quite a bit of practice getting down the awkward finger movements, but eventually it becomes second nature.

yes, you have to have short nails, or at least on the hand you want to do the notes with, but i highly doubt u want one hand with long and one hand with short nails, lol. i hate getting my nails done nowadays because it means i can't play my guitar until i get them off!

usually you have to provide your own guitar. which is better anyways because you want one that feels good to you.

and different songs require different things. so both-guitar pics and fingers.

hope this helped, good luck! :D

  5. you never wanna learn on an acoustic,

you wanna learn on a classical beacuse its harder to reach on, and then when you pick up the acosutic after experience itll be easier.

you want short nails on your left hand, an long on your right hand.

my boyrfriend is apro, cahrges 20 bucks an hour

  6. 1) Learning the basics (ie. string names) is easy. Once you get down to learning basic chords and strumming it can be difficult. For one, your fingers will hurt from pressing down the strings. With practice it all becomes easy.

    2) Whatever the teacher charges, that's how much you pay. But you usually get what you pay for (or not). You have to be on the lookout for those bad teachers, as private music teachers aren't certified and are self-employed.

    3) Strings are cheap while the guitar isn't. The case isn't cheap either.

    4) Depending whether you're playing a right or left handed guitar, your fretting hand (the one you use to form chords and play notes with) nails need to be short. If your nails are long, they'll scrape on the fretboard and make a not so nice sound, and it'll inhibit you from forming chords.

    5) I take lessons, and you have to bring your own guitar. Of course if for some reason you don't have your guitar, your teacher should be nice enough to let you use one of his/hers for that one lesson.

    6) Since you'll learn different styles of music (or you should), you'll be using both your fingers and picks.
