I play hockey and am alirhgt no superstar but I hussle bring grit and get around the net a lot. I shoot pucks every day for varying lengths of time, but no matter how many good chances I've been getting in games I can't seem to find the back of the net, what can I do to become a better pure socrer?

  1. Humus, don't think to hard about this. You just need that first goal to break your luck and help out your self esteem. "Good things happen when you put the puck on net." Just keep getting it to the net and something good will happen.

If anything you may need to change your position. If your the guy crashing the net then perhaps you need to be playing the point. Just my 2cp.

  2. work on your hand-eye coordination, which is obviously terrible by the way you type.

  3. for a wrist shot you want to start with the puck on the heel of your stick. Bring your stick back (pretty far but not all the way) and shift your weight towards the stick. As you shoot shift your weight forward with a quick wrist flick. When your done your stick should be pointed at your target. hope this helps.

  4. Pick up your head and shoot with a purpose.

Getting to the net and knowing how to shoot are not the only ways to score. The best way is to pick your spot. If your coming in on a goalie who goes down alot, you may want to go high, if the goalies more of a standup, try five hole. ALWAYS shoot with a purpose, throwing the puck at the net is not a scoring chance, watch the goalie in warmups and during the game and find his weaknesses. Tape some paper plates to the corners of the net you shoot at and work on accuracy, once you get these simple things down I guarantee you'll score much more often.

Shanahan and Hull made whole careers out of having accurate and hard shots, with great releases.

  5. its hard to give advice cuz it all depends where you're shooting the puck from, is a breakaway, a one timer shot, a give and go or a shot threw a screen...a few pointers...if ur close to the net try not to look at where you're shooting cuz goalies stair at ur eyes and thats a tell! also work on accuracy and shot power....a shooting tutor will help.. during the game getting in front of the net will help.... a lot of goals are scored on rebounds....and good goal scorers go games without scoring! there will be those days when u go against good goaltending

  6. There are two important things great goal scores do that make them so much better than the rest. They do take practice but can be mastered in about one season of hockey.

    1) Always drive the net and shoot off the stride. 90% of hockey players stop skating and glide before they shoot on net. Always keep your feet mvoing and learn to shoot off the stride from both feet.

    2) Put your head up and look for mesh - then point your stick on the follow through at the mesh. 70% of players shoot with thier head down and of the 30% that put thier head up, 90% of them look at the goalie. Learn to focus on looking at open net (mesh) - once your brain see's it and you follow through with your stick to that point you will score a lot more goals.

There are other tricks and tips but these two will show you huge immediate improvment once mastered guarenteed.
