So I am nearly 17 and I figured for the sake of my social future, I should learn how to dance. I never really learned 'how to' which is why I always avoided school dances which has made me feel it a bit excluded. So I've decided to take 'Beginning Ballroom Dancing" at a local community college. They cover: the Foxtrot, Waltz, and Tango. Is this class good enough so that I will learn how to dance?

  1. That won't be adequate to make you the most popular dancer at school dances, since most of the dancing there is a different style, but it's a good start, and will give you some good fundamentals to build on. If you stick to it past the introductory level, ballroom is especially good for the slow dances, but you'll notice little difference after just a single semester of an intro class.

Hip hop classes would be of more immediate benefit, but I'd say your choice of ballroom is best for the long haul, especially if you continue past the one course. It'll be a very good way to learn a social skill that will last you a lifetime.

I might also mention that the foxtrot you'll learn will be social foxtrot, not the ballroom style you see on the dancing shows on TV.

  2. Yea. Of Course.  Those are some of my favourite Ballroom Dances. Foxtrot and Salsa are Fun and they will deff. make you a better Dancer.  But it also matters on the Teacher. Mite wanna stop by and watch one of there classes some time... look if you like the dance there teaching and there technique.

    Good Luck ;)

  3. You're on the right track.  Beginning Ballroom is probably a good place to start.  There are other venues where you can learn to dance also.  Try local dance schools.  There are also many venues that offer dance nightly.  Remember no one starts off feeling like a pro. Everyone feels shy, insecure and nervous.  So don't be hard on yourself.  Loosen up, and enjoy the process.

  4. its not how u learn it, it how u love it, dancing is fun, so yea, u dont have to go to class to learn dance, u can dance inside ur room or anywhere, but if u wanna learn ballroom yeah u might wanna go, just the basic u know

  5. Well, the point of going to a dance class is to learn how to dance.

As for the "Beginning Ballroom Dancing", If that's the style you want to go it to then great!

If you are learning to dance for fun and not to go into pro, I would recommend Hip/Hop or Jazz. That's just my prospective.

    Good Luck and Have Fun!!
