  1. Go to edhelper.com to get printout for your child. It is catagorized by grade, so that it is age appropriate.

  2. Worksheets etc are generally not used any more as they take a lot of fun out opf learn and dont allow for children to really get engrossed in the subject.

However go to www.under5s.co.uk, www.teachingideas.co.uk/earlyyears they have some good things to do on their.

TO help with things like reading have books, magazines etc that he may like to read with and without an adult. Take child to any childrens events-museums, lesiure centres, community centres etc have things going on.

Else you could ask his school for things to do at home, and to know how to help him work on the targets he's at rather than going to far behind or beyond what he's doing in class.

  3. Learning print out to help with what?  Letter/number formation? Addition and subtraction?  Reading?  Shapes?

I got my three and four year old to write letters and numbers from the print outs on this site, they're not perfect but they're a start.

After my four year old copied the numbers for a while he had an easier time doing shapes... although he can still draw a better five than a square!?

I purchased a simple book called "FUN WITH PETS" from this site it costs less than ten dollars and is well worth the effort.

    http://www.abeka.com/

I took it easy five minutes at a time and then told him to run around, do jumping jacks or play catch.  After a while his attention span improved and he can sit for about an hour reading this book!!!  And now he's reading road signs, store fronts, cereal boxes etc... !!!  It's so cool (He's only four.)

Oh, did I tell you that after he, 'did his reading' up to wherever I said we would do it he got as many mini mm's as he could count?  He can now count to one hundred!   He's only four... and his little sister (3) is constantly asking if she can "do school" which means, say the name of the letter, the sound it makes, and the picture that goes with it.

Fun or what?  I found it pretty exciting.  Maybe you will too?

  4. Instead of worksheets, think HOMEMADE games.

Define the skill you want to teach and make a game for it.

Think of games he already knows how to play.  Candyland? Bingo?  Go Fish?

Put the skill on some cards and PLAY!

He will enjoy this much more than MORE paper work.

Check out the yahoo group Games4Learning for more ideas on making your own games.

  6. google search The under fives web site they have great links you may find something on there, or a site called scholastic.com which is a great aide for teachers etc or even crayola.com have printouts but no totally educational but still have a purpose when completed, as a nursery teacher i sometimes make out my own worksheets depending on what i want to achieve. Also ask his teacher what they recommend they usually have a supply of what is appropriate and what they want to be covering and they may also be able to give you a source other than the ones ive mentioned. Nice to see parental participation in a child's education, people usually believe its "our job" as teachers etc to totally educate their children when home involvement goes a long way too, thumbs up to you  and take a smiley face and gold star lol.

  7. It is so refreshing to hear of parents wanting to help their child academically and not leave it up to the school only. I bet you his teacher loves you. Kudos for you! First of think of what you want to focus on like numbers or letters or shapes, then do a search engine check thru google.com but type in" Shapes worksheets"  and you will get  numerous sites on worksheets.

    God Bless!
