Learning the drums?

Question

hello, im learning basic four count drums.

im a begginnerrr, but i have a couple questions.

1. im trying to leanr how to play waltz #2 by elliot smith, but im too retarded to figure out what hes doing in the very begginning.

is he using the snare and small tom? or medium?

2. the sound on both my small medium, and floor toms is too hollow

i have remos things on them, but how should i make them sound flatter?

3. it would be cool if you could list some songs i could learn, that are good for beginners

I'm not familiar with that tune. I generally have my newer students learn a couple AC/DC songs at first. It doesn't get more straight forward than that.
