I want to learn to longboard and don't know where to start. What kind of board should I start off with that is not too expensive. I have never skateboarded before.

  1. just get a simple softtop and just have fun with it

  2. The first board I ever bought was perfect for learning.

The brand is NSP (New Surf Project)

Their boards are made especially for just starting off at surfing.

prices range. You can also see if your local surf shop sells used NSP boards (that would be a lot cheaper)

  3. Unfortunately, you won't find a cheap longboard skateboard. I love Sector 9's but didn't like the idea of forking out 180.00 bucks. I bought a new longboard deck (Migration Touring Board) for 50 dollars, and a package with longboard trucks, gummy 70mm Sector 9 wheels, bearings and hardware for 50 dollars on Ebay. I really love it. It's flexible, fast, and fun. Either way, I think I got a deal. So expect to shell out at least 100 bucks.

If you are referring to a surfboard, look for a used stick at a surf shop. The sales person can advise which board will suit you weight and local break.

  4. Assuming you are talking about surfing.....

If you have never surfed before you will want to start with a big, wide longboard. This will provide you with lots of buoyancy which will help you paddle and stand up. I would look at buying  and used board or even those softtop surfboards they sell at costco for $100.
