I'm a beginner. I'm below a beginner, below a n00b. I know nothing about golf yet I have an great interest in it. I'm learning to play golf, but I don't know what clubs to get, plus I don't even understand what the clubs mean.

  1. If you are sincere in taking up the game, go with an inexpensive set and a reputable sporting goods store, anywhere between $120.00 to $175.00 should be good beginning set that can grow a little with your game.  Having a set of clubs insures that they are generally well balanced and match up with each other, and that can help your game.

Or you can do it the hard way (like I did) and purchase barrel clubs.  That is just clubs that are on display in barrels and you can buy them separately.  All different shapes, sizes and qualities.  I really didn't have any money so I purchased each club when I had the cash (averaged about $25.00 each).  The only advantage to that is that, after time, I got a really good idea on the kind of game that I had and the kind of club that would be good for that game, so when I finally saved enough money to buy a really good set, I knew what exactly to after (Titleist irons and an Excalibur driver).  The funny thing is, is that I still have the same Rawlings mallet putter that I bought 15 years ago at a "Pick & Save" for five bucks.  I have had many other putters (much more expensive) but I still love the feel of my old "slap stick."

    Good luck

  2. I'm a beginner too. But, I went out and got a cheap set of Dunlap's ($160). In short, the longer the club (driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, 3-iron, etc.) the farther the ball should go. The distance and accuracy is up to you. The only book on golf I ever read, and it helped me a lot, was the "KISS Guide to Playing Golf". Don't by a lot of videos!!!! Just get a cheap starter set of clubs, go to the driving range, and practice. The driving range is where you'll see what each club truly is about. Just have fun and don't take golf, or yourself playing golf too seriously.

  3. go to a golf course that works with youth as for his recommendation has a lot to do with your size in stature .that's the best place to start .

  4. robert explained the clubs well, but as far as getting starter clubs, you can just get the cheapest set you can find and that will be fine.  the most important part about starting to learn how to play golf is just getting fimilar with how to swing and and most importantly for you, just striking the ball. if you plan on sticking with golfing, i would recommend getting a set oversized clubs.  oversized just means that the club head is a little bit bigger, and makes it more forgiving when you dont make real good contact with the ball.  if you buy a set from a store like d**k's sporting goods or somewhere that has a golf guy there they will know what your talking about and will be able to show you those clubs.

    good luck
