Question:

Learning to play tennis- wrist pain?

by  |  earlier

I've just recently started learning to play tennis (no insturctor) and I find that my wrist hurts badly after I play. Does anyone have any tips on a way to swing without causing the pain? Would a wrist wrap/brace etc. eliminate the pain or just immobilize me?

Thanks!

  1. You should try using your full arm instead of using your wrist, and if this problem still continues, using something on your wrist may eliminate the pain during playing.

  2. I went through the same thing and here is what you should check

    1) check your grip if it's too big or too big for you.... Here is how to check, hold the racket in your right hand (if you are left handed then hold it with your left). Place the index finger of your left hand in between your right hand's palm and ring finger... if it doesn't fit then the grip is either too small or too big for you.

2)Shock Canceler, this might seem like nothing but idk, it might be the cause....

    3) Limit hitting topspin with your forehand.

4)Use wrist supporter to aid your wrist in the time your wrist heal (if you are planning to continue to play)

Just take care of your self, wrist pain is a serious injury when it came to tennis =D

  3. Ice seems to be the best cure. Put it on after playing and at night. As for technique, use more shoulder and hips in your stroke. It might have something to do with footwork, since being in bad positions forces bad form in your swing. Practice moving your feet constantly on court. If those don't work, try working with an instructor. If you're serious enough about tennis to play through wrist pain, you would benefit from it.

Also, rest for a week or so before getting back into it. Good luck
