  1. I played trumpet from age 11 to the present (I'm 22).

All of my basic lessons came from my school and the band teachers/professors. I did, however, have a dad who was pretty musically inclined as well, so that was a help.

My advice would be to look into taking private lessons with someone, if you have the money. It's really the best way to learn because you have a guide there to help you out with any questions. You also have someone and something to hold you accountable for practicing and keeping up with the instrument. If money is an issue, buying a beginner's book would work just fine, as long as you know you can keep working.

I know that when I've slacked off of practicing, it can be difficult to get back into because trumpet, like a lot of instruments, calls for keeping your lips/mouth in shape. That sounds funny, but you'll understand as soon as you start playing.

I have loved playing the trumpet, and I would never go back to change the instrument I picked.
