  1. It probably won't be any easier. The mechanics are so different for each.

I have skied all my life, but did learn snowboarding. Knowing how to ski was of no help whatsoever in learning how to snowboard.

The learning curve will depend on how athletic you are. Roller blading or water skiing are two sports that translate well to skiing.

  2. Well, I've been skiing for about 12 years and I've snowboarded twice. However, I'm on a high school racing team and am around a lot of snowboarders.

I think snowboarding is easier to learn, but harder to get good at. Not many snowboarders can carve edge-to-edge down a slope.

Skiing is a bit harder to learn at first, but it's easier to get good at.

I recomend taking some lessons. If you decide you like and want to buy skis, don't buy anything that's over five years old. Most brands are pretty good, but I love my Volkl Six Stars. They're the 2006 model and are excellent. They're a great all around ski and can handle just about everything (with the exception of powder). If you're in the Tahoe area, check out the Start Haus in Truckee. They have last season's ski for about half the original price ($250 instead of $500). For cheaper stuff, buy at the end of the season.
