  1. Swim lessons are the way to go, but if you need something for immediately, then here's some tips...

Practice holding your breath underwater. The more you feel confident with your head under the water, the more confident you will be in it.

Make sure to kick your legs, as those are the first things to sink!!! If you want to tread water, then kick them in a circular motion (egg-beater), and move your hands to skull water. Just relax, as people are naturally bouyant, and can stay afloat with minimal effort.

If you want to swim (without goggles), then I would suggest watching videos on youtube to watch people do it. There arae also great instructional videos on there too! Hope that you have the best of Luck!!! Swimming is a great thing!!!

  2. Take swim lessons at the YMCA. Their lessons are designed by the Red Cross; level one will give you all the skills you want, and then you can make the decision to progress to level two or to hold with what you have. They will work with you if you have fear of the water--many people have such a fear and have trouble putting their faces under water. YMCA instructors are trained to deal with that. Just one piece of advice: the better swimmer you are, the more fun you'll have in the water:-)

  3. Breastroke, Crawl, Butterfly...all of these will get you to shore alot faster than this next one will.

What I do is I float on my back (ya need to conquer fear to do that!) and pedal my feet like i'm on a bicycle while twisting my hips from side to side. This propels my body backwards, and would get ya to shore.
