  1. it all depends on what level the child is at.. it could be 4 to 6 years old

  2. depending on the child and the help they are getting at home .

some children start to write there name in the age off 3 and over

  3. 4 and up .................

  4. It depends on their eye-hand coordination & experience with a crayon or pencil.  Usually kindergarten to first grade, ages 4-6.

  5. The Kindergarten teachers I've worked with usually just want children to recognize their names in print not necessarily write them. The reason is they don't want someone teaching the child the wrong way (holding the pencil the wrong way or using the wrong writing style) and then having to break that habit. When I was growing up we were taught Block Style printing, now most school districts use a D'Nelian Style print (just google it) which most adults are not familiar with. I've see kids who know how to write their names get their little feelings crushed by a teacher who tells them it's not the "right way". Also there is motor development involved in being able to hold a pencil correctly. If a child has not been exposed to enough fine motor development in pre-K their hand muscles may not be strong enough to hold the pencil correctly. This is when you start hearing kids complain their hands hurt or avoid writing tasks because of it.

  6. To be honest it depends on the individual child. Some children may develop there hand eye cordination skills better and quicker than others. The average age though is suposed to be between three and four years.

  7. When they are ready, and have someone to show them how.

  8. My son knew at 3.  My daughter is 2 and she can spell hers.  i teach them at home.  my son is now writing more than his name... he's 4.

  9. They should be able to write their first name and recognize it in print by the time they are 5 years old or entering kindergarten (many children learn this earlier).  Last names can wait until later in the kindergarten year.  Always teach uppercase letter for first letter and lower case letters for the remaining letters (unless name is a contraction of two words or names such as Ja'Niesha).

  10. My granddaughter is currently 4 and she has been writing her own name for over a year.  She was able to spell all three of her names orally by age 2 1/2.  She also knows her address and phone number - something I can't say for all of my second and first grade students!

  11. Depends on the child. Mine was writting his first name at 3 yrs (Christopher) by the time he was 4 he could write out his entire name without help (christopher alexander) and his last name as well.

  12. It is not mandatory for them to know how to write their name before entering Kindergarten, although a lot of kids learn to write their names between the ages of 2-4.

However, please keep in mind that most kids don't print their name correctly when they enter Kindergarten anyway. They form their letters incorrectly (yes, there is a specific way to write each letter of the alphabet and everyone has to do it the same way).

  13. They're expected to know how to do this before entering kindergarten.  They should be learning this in preschool if not at home.

  14. Usually by Kindergarten, but some children learn earlier. My daughter was writing her name by the age of 2.
