Lease/Work questions?

I am interested in offering one of my horses on like a half lease or let someone come out and ride and i can give them lessons (i am not certified or anything) in exchange for them working for me. i thought it would be good for kids from the city who maybe would like to ride but parents can't afford it. i was wondering how many hours should i make them work for lessons and riding oppertunity ( i am still boarding and caring for the horses) and how could i put an ad up with out sounding like a crazy person? what other things should i know...

  1. Ooh, I'd love to do that. xD rofl

I used to work at a stable for free, and I had assigned chores. When I got done, I was done. I could go at my own pace. It was awesome! =] I think you should do that too, because you could ask somebody to work 4 hours and they'd be slow and unproductive. This way, you'd know exactly what got done.

    Good Luck!

  2. Well when i had to work at my old barn i had to work a whole day (from usually 8/9am - 3/4pm). We would then get to ride for an hour or an hour and a half. My new barn i work one hour a day (during the school year), 2 hours a day (in the summer), per week. I also clean all 10 stalls, and pick out the paddocks, and pastures ($40). The $40, comes off my lessons, and the other work reduces my board ($375/month) by maybe $20, depends on what i get done. Just think of jobs you can have the client do and if they finish those jobs or do a good job then i would let them hack or have a lesson. If its a half lease, then i would figure out days they can come out and ride. The more they work, the more days they get? Just post an ad at a tack shop and state what you want to do. "I have a horse for half lease, preferably for a kid whose parents cannot offered formal riding lessons and ownership of a horse. I can give lessons (although i am not certified) in exchange for work." Then give info about your horse, your phone # or e-mail.
