Question:

Lease a Boat?

I live in Chicago and want a pontoon boat ( I would look at others too). But, I dont want to buy becasue it is only warm 3 months out of the year. Wouldnt be worth the cost of having to keep it all year. I want to long term rent or lease a boat for 3 months and then return. I looked all over the internet and found nothing............Does anybody have leads or ideas.

  1. Here in Minnesota they have boat clubs, where a number of people buy a number of boats and they can use them a set number of days per year. You might have access to a pontoon, a ski boat, a sailboat, and/or a PWC. Check into it at one of the local marinas. I will search the net and see what i can find.

    Good luck and have fun.

  2. Michelle, the economics of your situation are that it is going to cost you less to own than to lease. A lessee will have the same expenses and dead time that an owner will have, plus no return on investment for 9 months, so the price to rent will have to compensate them for the dead time.

It may be that no one in the area there will lease pontoon boats, as they can own them further south and rent them out, instead of wintering them in snowy Chicago.

Pontoon boat for Lake Michigan? I hope that you want to go boating somewhere else. I would not do  it on Lake Michigan. Too much water for a pontoon boat. They are not good in waves.

    Regards,

    Dan

  3. No money in 3 months lease> Boats rent per day>Or weeks>
