Hi i live in india.. and the climate is extremly humid and hot. Any leather thing i previously owned, would mould within a week.. now i inherited a beatiful western saddle. and there i way i am not going to ride in it..!! but as i live in india. i am looking for a way to preserve my saddle in the best form.. (edible oils won't work, since it attracts ants) any tips guides will be really really welcome!!!

  1. Lexol!!! Call 1-800-Jeffers and they will send you a catalog, or you can look up Jeffers Equine online and order Lexol. It preserves and conditions leather wonderfully.

Keep the saddle cleaned and it should be OK.

  2. You're best bet is to get a glycerin bar and soap it up to soften/clean it then use neatsfoot oil sparingly after the glycerin has dried.

    Ants don't like neatsfoot oil...:)

  3. I live in Texas which also has a hot and humid climate. Frequent cleaning is the best way to keep leather preserved and to prevent mold. Ideally you want to clean it after every ride, but if that's not possible at least once a week. You also want to condition the leather about every two weeks. My favorite products are the Lexol pH saddle soap and Lexol conditioner. I don't know if you can get those in India, though. Any saddle soap with glycerin will do the job. There are probably several other leather conditioners that would work well. I would avoid neetsfoot oil though, as it darkens leather and stains clothes.

  4. Just lots and lots of cleaning! can you put it in a room with a fan, or Air conditioner?
