  1. They use them in shows. I think they are for grip and help prevent rubbing, instead of chaps.

  2. I know what you mean but I can't find a picture of it.

You mean at the top of long leather riding boots don't you ?

It's supposed to stop the boot from sliding down.

  3. those straps are called jodphur garter straps. they keep a riders jodphurs from sliding up or down their legs while ridng when they are only wearing paddock boots. they are usually only used by children, in short stirrup classes before they move on to purchase a pair of field boots.

  4. They are to keep the jodpur pants from riding up.

A friend of mine wore them in a show in 1969 and I asked her!  I had tall boots, she had jodpurs.

  5. They're called garters or garter straps. They keep your jodphurs from sliding around. Most people use them only for showing

  6. They are called garter straps, they are used with long boots and breeches - the idea is that they stop the boot from sliding down and the breeches from sliding up .

  7. They're called garters, and if you wear short boots you wear them to help keep your pants from riding up.
