I just got a leatherman Blast yesterday and it seems like it a little hard to open it? Should I oil it or will it loosen up over time? It's not like it's impossible to open, but it does give a little more restrain then I'm used to, should I worry or is it sposed to be like that?

  1. My Leatherman Wave model is a little too loosey-goosey for my liking, I'm wishing that it were tight, like yours. Can you live with it? Enjoy the fact that it's tight now and it will loosen up with use. If you really think that it's too tight, can you take it back to the store where it came from and compare it to some other ones they have?

Don't use WD-40 as a lubricant. It has a liquid vehicle, or thin viscosity liquid, in which the actual oil is diluted and this vehicle will evaporate and when the vehicle evaporate and dries, the remaining oil gets kind of gunky. Put some 3-in-1 on it. Use WD-40 for cleaning, emergency quick lubes or for getting water out of electrical connections. Don't use it as a spray on oil, it's actually not very good for that purpose in spite of the fact that just about everyone and their brother uses it as a substitute for oil. WD-40 and duct tape have become the universal solutions to most handiman problems, but in this case I do NOT recommend it.

Take care of your Leatherman, they're the greatest! I've had my Wave for about ten years and use it constantly.

  2. I have three Leatherman tools, and they all open quite easily, at least the main blades/tools.  However, I do not the the Blast model.

    Wouldn't hurt to try a little WD-40.

  3. Try a little WD-40 or some hand strengthening exercises.
