Leave cat alone or send her elsewhere?

I have a 8-year-old only cat. I am having surgery and will be away from home for several weeks. Would it be less stressful for her to stay home with someone looking in on her every couple of days or for her to go to my son's home with one other cat? I am trying to figure out what will be easiest on her.

  1. If you were just going to be gone a few days to a week, I wouldn't worry about her and would have someone look in on her.  A few weeks is a different story and she might become depressed and think she's been abandoned, so my choice would be to leave her with your son so she can have the company of his cat.  Hope your surgery goes well.

  2. i would just have someone looking after her every day or so

  3. Probably just to leave her at home if you are certain someone will look in on her every couple of days and take care of her litter and food and water. I've had to do the same thing before with a cat that was 7 years old and she was fine.

  4. Having someone come to your home will be less stressful on her. I would ask them to spend a little time each visit with her so she doesn't get lonely or depressed.

  5. A lot depends on the area you live in. If there are a lot of cats then there could be fighting and your cat wouldn't have your care. Is it possible to put her in a cattery? Home is best but every two days could be a long time for your cat. Going into a house with another cat could be tricky unless there is some way of keeping them apart. She would be going into another cat's territory.

    I wish you both well.

  6. EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS?!?

    no

let her stay home then have someone sleep over they whole time or go twice a day.

to feed and play and such.

  7. If she knows your son well and is comfortable with him it might be a good idea.  Several weeks is a long time for a kitty to be on her own with just someone looking in every few days.

Hope all goes well for you and wishing you a speedy recovery!

  8. I WENT TO ANOTHER STATE TO BUY A HOUSE TO MOVE.

I HAD NEIGHBORS COME BY AND FEED AND WATER AND CHANGE THE BOXES AS NEEDED.

CATS CAN TAKE IT. BUT EITHER DECISION, SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD ONE !!!!

BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR SURGERY !!!!
