Do you receive any leave during IET?

If so how much, enough to get home and see family?

  1. Depends on your Corps and Job. IETs aren't uniform and vary greatly in length, intensity and discipline.

Someone doing a 2 week Reserve Gun Course won't have time for anything except an hour of drinking. A full time Infantry or Armoured Corps trainee will get at least a couple days or nights off. A full time Signals trainee doing a 58 week course is obviously going to get sufficient time off, else his head implodes.

Keep in mind that you even get short local leave while at Kapooka. Why wouldn't they be slightly more generous with it during your IETs? But if you're hoping for enough time to travel across the country to visit relatives, don't get your hopes up unless you're training in your home state.

  2. no leave is authorized while in a training status unless during the last 2 weeks in December when all the schools shut down for the holiday period( or a qualifying Emergency)

  3. You will accrue 2.5 days of leave per month.  However, while in IET, you will only be able to take leave in two cases -- emergency leave in the event of a family crisis or death and christmas exodus.

Chances are, you will get no chance to take leave, so just accept it, suck it up, drive on and graduate.

    Thanks for serving.
