my 87 year old grandmother will be going to the beach with us this summer, and she will be about 300 yards away in a motel room. we want to keep some open line of communication open at all times, but i don't know of any technology. she can't operate phones or anything, so i was hoping to leave a walkie talkie on all day without her having to do anything but say something if she needed help. of course we would be checking on her every hour, but i just wanted this to kinda help out too. any ideas?

  1. Get a simple mobile phone and enable auto answer in one ring. when you will call her, she can just wait for one ring and then speak to you without pressing any buttons.

  2. Use a baby monitor instead.  Most walkie talkies operate on battery only.  There's no need to wear down a battery when grandma is stationary.

  3. unfortunatley all of the radios that i know of you have to push a button to talk becuase they only transmitt or receive so when you puhs the talk button the mode changes so that you can either be listening or talking. You can get a radios that one large talk button and all of the others on it are smaller in comparrison, this might make it a bit easier for her to use, but probably still confusing for an older person
