Leaving US for UK?

i want to live in the UK how long would it take to get a Residency if i apply from the US same question for citizenship. and if i travel their on vacation do i need to apply for visa or wud just my american passport be enough.

If you enter on a tourist visa it won't work. You have to be outside the UK to apply for a change of status or a work visa.

To visit only? With a US passport you just fly in and they will give you a 90 day tourist visa.They will give you a little card on the plane that takes 3 minutes to fill out. The UK and the US have a deal so there is no need to preapply.

If you want the 6 months stamp (the max) you just ask. It is no biggie.

if you go to the UK on vacation you are expected to leave when the visa expires or you'll be there illegally.  whether or not you get residency depends on what you have to offer (specialized training or education, etc).  Lots of people want just what you do, so don't hold your breath.  They have very tight immigration laws, as do most countries.   Plus the UK is an island and more difficult to get into without documents.

You can go there without a visa to visit, and you can talk to the British embassy in America to find out what you have to do and your chances of making it in.

If you are going to the UK though, just watch out for racist babies I've heard there popping up everywhere.

It depends on where you have citizenship.  If you are a US citizen and not a citizen of an EU country, you are able to stay in the UK for 6 months without a Visa.  However, you would not be able to find legal work while there.  And, I don't think you can apply for residency while visiting on as a tourist.

You should contact the British embassy to get information on immigrating to the UK.  They can tell you what the process is and whether you qualify.
