Leaving a child home alone?

How old was your child when you first left them home alone over night ?

I'm 15 and my parents have never allowed me to be home alone overnight.

They have gone away for the night before, but they always leave my brother in charge of me.

I am 45 and even I don't like to be home alone at night!  I never allow my children (12 and 17) to be alone at night.  They always have someone with them.  I have never left the two of them home alone all night either.

It isn't about age it is about saftey.  

Even an adult may not be safe alone at night - so a child - which you are - is certainly NOT safe.  Even if you did eveything right you are not physically able to fight off an attacker being so young.  

Don't take it as a sign they don't trust you - consider it confirmation that they love you and want to keep you safe!!

I'm 15 and I'm not allowed to stay home alone overnight either.   A friend of my parents or a relative usually comes to stay with me.

But my mum said that it's actually against the law to leave a child under 16 home alone ... in case there are any accidents that happen when the parents aren't home :s

My child is twelve and I have not thought about leaving her alone overnight....for a few hours yes,  but not all night!  Maybe if she was 17.

Look, the first time I was left alone at night was when I was 12!

Your parents are just watching out for you. I'm 31 and I guarantee if my parents were within 100 miles they still wouldn't want me to be home alone at night even though I'm married, grown, and have 5 kids!LOL

I think 12 is the legal age. I'm not sure? It might vary by state.

I was your age on some emergency accusations but other then that when I was about 16. I am now 18

My parents were alcohlics.. As in go to the bar all night and maybe not come home (scared me everytime they did it)

They first time I was left home alone all night I was 11 yrs old watching my 8 yr old brother.

I was scared and didn't know where mommy and daddy  were.

Like 14 or 15 but only leave them alone if they feel safe.

It really depends on how THEY feel NOT on their age.

If it is an emergency- leave them at a relitive or close friend's house.

How would you feel if u were 14 or 15 or something and you didn't feel safe when left alone but your rents thought you would be fine cuz u were 15 or 14.!!!

i was never left alone over night.im 27,with one daughter,a husband and 3 babys on their way and my parents would never let me be alone over night.they would always come over....sometimes even when im not alone

my mom worked graveyard shifts and other jobs that kept her out of town/state for a day or two when i was 13-14 but i honestly dont know if i would let my kids alone over nite when they got older. especially considering all the thing i did!

i think it depends on how mature the teenager is and if they are responsible.
