What do ppl think about this . Is it better to leave my gas heater on 24/7 or turn it off at night? Some mornings it takes at least 4 hours to bring the room temp. up to about 20c.or 70F. but if I leave it on low during the night it's warm when I get up. Is it better to leave it on ?

  1. it's illegal to install a gas heater in a bedroom because it is considered too dangerous to be on unattended in case something goes wrong.  so probably not a good idea.

We have always had gas heating and have been happy with it but this year we installed a gas heater in an additional room.  Instead of the orange glow type with fan, it has just a hidden flame and a fan to blow the heat out its called a Convection heater and what a difference.  It heats the room nearly instantly - it has a temperature reader on the top and it goes up a few degrees in the first few minutes.

If you left the heater on all day every day you would burn a massive amount of gas.  It may be better to get some advice on whether you have the right size for you house and swap to a better model or a larger size.  may still be cheaper than all that gas in the long run.

  2. Hi, can you afford to leave it running, turning it to low or think of our environment and turn it off completely. Knowing a bit about gas heating, if a gas unit isn’t vented to the outside, soot will build up on the ceilings/walls over time, I hate painting so turn it off. With any unit they dry the air out considerably. If the home is insulated properly it shouldn’t take 4 hours to reheat the room. So turn it off.

  3. Leave it on. Most gas heaters work on a thermostat, which keeps the temperature at a set level all the time. It actually uses less gas this way than trying to reheat the entire house from stone cold every day.

Just turn it down lower at night and when you go out, it'll keep the chill off the air, and you'll get the house warm again a lot quicker.

As for soot, if a gas heater is designed to work without a flue, then it is designed to burn as cleanly as possible. You will not get soot build up on your ceiling. If you do, get your heater serviced, it means it isn't burning properly and could be dangerous.
