Leaving hair dye in for shorter time than it says?

I want to dye my hair, but the colour I got is a little darker than I wanted it to be, if I leave the hair dye in for a shorter time than it says on the directions, will it turn out lighter?

I don't want to buy a new hair dye kit, since I already have one.

  1. Just dilute it with conditioner.

  2. yeah if you want your hair lighter then the color it says it will be dont leave it in as long by maybe 10 minutes good luck

  3. sounds like it will. the longer you leave a dye or bleach in, the more effect it has. so the opposite should be true.

  4. Yup, it'll come out lighter if you leave it in for a shorter time. Just keep an eye on it.

  5. your hair will just be lighter then wat the box say

  7. It will most likely turn out lighter (assuming your base colour-- aka your current hair colour-- is lighter), but it might not cover evenly or turn out the colour you wanted in the end. The best way to tell is to mix it up and put it on a strand or piece of your hair, leave it on for the shorter amount of time and then rinse it off to see what it turned out to be. Adjust the time as per the results that appear on the test strand.

Good luck on the new colour! ^.^

    Hope all goes well.
