Leaving my apartment...

I need to give 30 days notice. How do I go about this?

I figure I'll write it in a letter but what to I include in the letter?

it can be a short as my name is blank.  I live in apartment blank at blank address.  This is my 30 day leaving notice.  Then sign and date.

You can either send it certified mail or just hand it in person, but make sure you take note of who received it and when.  Certified mail is better because you get proof of when someone recieved it.

Be sure to specify a date you will departing and request a walk-through of the apartment with the manager.

Very simply write a letter to your landlord that specifies that you will be moving out or vacating your rental unit before x*x date. You do not need to give a reason. If you are under a lease you may be breaking the lease by moving out, look into that. If you are not under a lease then in most states you are under a month to month tenancy and need only give a 30 day notice. In most states a 30 day notice must be given before the 1st of the month so if you want to move out Sept 1st you may have just missed the deadline. It will depend on how your landlord feels about letting you move out. I would suggest mailing the letter return receipt requested if you think the landlord will say he never received it. If you hand deliver it he may be willing to accept it tomorrow, the 1st of the month. Be sure that you take pictures after you finish moving out and request that the landlord do a final walk through with you to see if he feels there is any reason to with hold any or all of your deposit. He may give you a chance to fix these problems yourself rather than keeping the deposit to pay someone to make repairs.
