I am going on vacation for a week (no mice aloud.) Our pet sitter doesnt want to take care of my mouse because when you open the cage lid she can jump out! i have gotten her to agree to check on her every day and make sure she has water left and food left. She eats lab blocks and i will put in enough for 8 or 9 days (im only gon for 7) and she only really eats one a day. I am going to fill her water bottle and leave a treat bar. She will have her wheel, bed, and a couple toys in her cage. What else can i do for her?

  1. See if someone else, trustable, can take care o it... that lady isn't a very good pet sitter if she won't open the cage!!

  2. See if maybe a friend will take care of her. If not, then the petsitter will be your only option.

  3. When we leave our rodents for a week, I put in extra water bottles.  The main problem with our mouse is that she will push her bedding up around the tip of the water bottle and then it all leaks out.  You just kind of have to look at the cage with a critical eye and think of any stupid thing that will go wrong.

  4. Not much more you can do. My only concern would be that she may eat more lab blocks if you give the weekly feeding at once. You may come home to a slightly chubbier mouse. I would really urge you to have your petsitter petsit. Show them how to open the cage without the mouse being a problem. There's always a solution. Maybe even by another temporary cage that opens up from the top so that food can be dropped in easily without risk of  an escaping mouse.
