Lebanon is a step closer to Rugby League World Cup 2013
Lebanon crushed the Russian side completely with a total of 32 unanswered points scored by their side in the battle at Vereya. With this win, they will be able to cement their position in the Rugby League World Cup 2013.
This win did not only prove their strength against the Russian side, but this match speaks a great deal about their physical strength which many observers speculated would be negatively impacted in extremely low temperatures.
However, the unpleasantly cold weather failed to stop the Lebanese side against their goal of walking out victorious from the showdown.
The game was studded with a total of six tries from Lebanon, with two tries coming in from Danny Barakat with the half-way score of 26-0.
Lebanese coach, David Baysarri, is eyeing his side’s next win against Italy in Belgrade next Saturday. This win is very important for the squad because it will enable them to stand alongside Scotland and Tonga in group C, for the World Cup 2013.
While acknowledging the fact that this was a very crucial win for his side, Baysarri said there were a number of factors that had affected their performance and amongst those factors were the extreme weather conditions against which his side had to put up
a constant struggle.
Beating all odds, the Lebanese side had emerged victorious, bringing themselves one step closer to booking their berth in the World Cup 2013.
Despite gravely the embarrassing defeat for the Russian side, their coach, John Stankevitch, the former St Helens forward, was happy to see his side’s immensely improved game contrary to their very recent 92-6 defeat against Italy.
Also, while appreciating his side’s big stride towards improvement, the Russian coach added, "I was very pleased with our defensive effort. I was particularly happy with how we managed to tighten things up in the second half, and overall I was pleased with
the enthusiasm of the players."
