Italian side Lecce have agreed to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Valeri Bojinov on loan according to a statement released on their website.
The Bulgarian International has unceremoniously departed Estadio Jose Alvalade after infuriating the officials and fans alike.
Bojinov chose to take a late penalty himself in the league cup tie against Moreirense, the spot-kick would have secured victory for the Lions and as Matias Fernandez stepped up to convert it, the 25-year-old pushed him aside and took it himself.
However the striker missed and was the subject of much controversy as the club refused to let him enter the stadium or let him train with the rest of the squad. He was put up for sale and despite his antics, a number of sides expressed interest in acquiring his services.
Levski Sofia, Dynamo Kiev, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Trabzonspor-c40759 were reportedly leading the race to sign the former Parma man and the Bulgarian giants alongside their Spanish counterparts, even made their interest public.
However Italian Serie A side Lecce were the ones who finally inked a deal with the attacker and although it is a temporary move, Bojinov returns to the club where he first made his name.
He was the youngest player that played in the Italian top flight for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 and he showed incredible promise during his time at Stadio Via del Mar. His 19 goals in 68 appearances is a decent record and the talented front-man has the opportunity to improve it even further.
A statement on the club website confirmed his return to his former employers and highlighted his previous contributions to the side.
"Lecce announces the hiring of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valeri-Bojinov-c35853 on a temporary basis from Sporting Lisbon. The striker returns to Lecce after 68 games and 19 goals in the club’s jersey," read the official statement.
Given how Sporting reacted after his actions on the pitch, it is highly unlikely that they will allow him to return to the club after his deal with the Lupi expires.
Instead they are going to put him up for sale to the Giallorossi first and if the Italian outfit rebuffs their offer, they are going to scour the transfer market for potential suitors rather than allow him to return.
