Lechuza 8 – Audi 6: US Open Polo Championship Finals Player Ratings
Lechuza took Audi down in the finals of the 107th United States Open Polo Championship and clinched the title of the 26-goal handicap tournament. It is second major victory in the credit of Lechuza in the recent season, as they had won CV Whitney
Cup earlier in this year.
Some might claim Lechuza was more in-form team in the title-claiming fight, but Audi was clearly the better team on the field. However, they could not cope with a speed of the Lechuza attackers and lost the crucial game.
It is pertinent to mention here that Audi lost to Crab Orchard in the finals of the last edition of the US Open.
Let us take at how both the teams played in their final game of the historic event at the International Polo Club in Floridian city of Wellington.
Lechuza
Sapo Caset: 8.0/10
Four goals in the grand finale against talented Audi, shows just how difficult Sapo Caset rendered an impressive performance. He was topped off with his performance of the penalty conversions. His goals were simply outstanding which not only made the Lechuza
victory possible, but enchanted the spectators a lot. By heart and soul of the Lechuza attack, he was the real architect of the grand title victory.
Juan Martin Nero: 7.0/10
Another best performance helped him to secure the MVP award of the tournament. He is one of those players who can pass the ball and create chances for front strikers. Played quite unselfishly, he could only score thrice in the final game and assisted his
team-mates throughout the six chukkas.
Victor Vargas: 6.5/10
The skipper was at his best and showed outstanding game, whether on defence or offence. His lengthy rides and stick-work helped Lechuza to deny strikes from Audi. Apart from his stiff defence, he converted a penalty shot to add a point in the winning tally.
He made some crucial saves in the earlier stages that served them a lot in the triumph.
Gaston Lisioli: 6.0/10
He didn’t put a wrong step in the game despite missing numerous goal-scoring chances. He had to deal with Audi attackers but succeeded to keep them far away from the goal. He stayed at the back foot most of the time and rarely took a lengthy ride to go forward.
But he defended his position more than impressively.
Audi
Gonzalito Pieres: 6.0/10
Though it was an excellent performance from Gonzalito Pieres who hoped to make the victory possible, they lost the game by two goals. He didn’t dishearten much to his anticipators and scored a couple of goals, but the missing shots led them to a humiliated
defeat.
Nico (Nicolas) Pieres: 6.0/10
The Argentinean made a number of forward runs particularly in the first half, but to no avail. He missed plenty of chances in the second chukka and came under pressure. His two goals could not save them from a defeat.
Rodrigo Andrade: 5.5.0/10
He showed impressive attack in the final game and scored a couple of goals but failed to show impressive game on defence. His major responsibility was to block Lechuza attacks but he failed to do so.
Marc Ganzi: 4.0/10
It was a completely flop performance from Ganzi, the skipper of the Audi team. He failed to assist his defenders and as well the attackers.
