Lechuza thrashes Faraway by 11-7 in US Open Polo Championship
Sapo Caset, the legendary polo star of Argentina, scored nine goals and had an assist, as Lechuza powered an 11-7 win over Faraway in the opening round match of the United States Open Polo Championship. The one-sided contest was held at the International
Polo Club in Wellington, city of Florida.
With to and fro attacks, the fabled strikers of Lechuza marked some eleven goals against the seven of its competitors and established their dominance in the 26-goal handicap tournament. Faraway received a shock before the game, as its fabled player, Nic
Roldan, was missing from the team. Luis Escobar was inducted in the place of Roldan.
Sapo Caset is on a high verge in the season and he was the player who earned ten goals twice in the recently-concluded United States Polo Association (USPA) Piaget Gold Cup.
In the recent game he ruined the defence line of Faraway to take them down in the opening contest.
Caset opened the score of the day and marked a couple of goals at the start of the first set of play. It was the only offence from the due sides in the game, as Faraway remained scoreless in the period.
The second frame also belonged to Lechuza which obtained another two goals while its resilient defence kept Faraway off the scoreboard. Sapo Caset and his team-mate, Juan Martin Nero, added one score each for Lechuza and doubled the lead up to four goals,
4-4 at the end of the second round.
At last the attack of Faraway came alive in the third period, but they could only manage one goal in the seven and half minute action. Mike Azzaro marked first goal of the day and brought his team into the score-net. But another Lechuza goal was scored in
the hands of Caset to end the first three chukkas of play with Lechuza hanging on to a commanding four goals lead, 5-1.
The fourth chukka was the most fruitful period for Faraway where it received two goals, while minimising Lechuza only for a solitary effort. Luis Escobar and Lucas Monteverde added one goal each while Caset managed a single goal for Lechuza. Faraway was
trailing by three goals, 6-3, at the end of the four chukkas of action.
Lechuza geared it up again in the second last frame and managed three notches while limiting Faraway only for a single point. A solitary goal from Martin Espain was accompanied by a couple of goals from Caset to expand the lead up to six goals, 9-3. Azzaro
accounted for another goal to close out the scoring with Faraway trailing by five goals.
The two teams exchanged a couple of goals in the final round and the one who was leading the score won the game. Caset scored a pair of goals for Lechuza while Escobar and Azzaro managed one goal each for Faraway. With the final horn, the foursome of Lechuza
won the game by five impressive goal-margins.
