Ledley King a worry for England

Ledley King will have a daily assessment on his fitness after the came off in the 1-1 draw with the United States on Saturday with a groin injury.

Reports have suggested that he would miss England’s next game against Algeria on Friday, but it is understood that he could potentially miss the whole World Cup now, with Jamie Carragher, Michael Dawson and Matthew Upson looking to replace him.

Rio Ferdinand, the original England captain, was already ruled out with a knee injury, and King’s doubts add to the worries. King, who has been struggling with his fitness all season with Tottenham Hotspur, looked to be over those worries.

The defender did not take part in England’s training session this morning and went to the swimming pool to continue his rehabilitation.

“Ledley has a groin muscle strain. He will be assessed on a day-to-day basis,” said an FA spokesman.
