Tottenham Hotspur’s central defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ledley-King-c21859 has hinted that he might consider retirement as his contract nears its end in the summer after a long disappointing season with Spurs where injury was once again his main nemesis...
Ledley King has come out and hinted at retiring from football altogether after his contract expires later on in the summer with Tottenham Hotspur. King has had a tough time over the past seasons with his recurring
injury problems especially his fragile knees.
Harry Redknapp has used his experienced centre back sparingly due to his fitness and fatigue issues but now it seems that King is fed up of his fitness issues and looking to call time on a career which can be characterized as
marginally promising to say the least. King has done well when called upon by both club and country which makes his absence for Tottenham all the more hurtful given the quality that he can bring to their first team line up when he is fit for duty.
In the recent league campaign, King only featured 23 times in all competitions due to his fitness problems, something that has played a large part in King’s thought process which is now directed towards retirement. The English
defender said, "I had a really good start to last season and was pleased to play as many games as I did. A knock in training set me back towards the end, but I opted to carry on playing rather than take the time out to have the knee seen to.”
He added, “Unfortunately that meant that I didn’t play the last few games at the standard I would have liked. I’ve been discussing things with the club and my contract expires this summer. The club has been fantastic in supporting
me and given me several options to stay involved with Tottenham.”
Harry Redknapp will hope that King takes a decision on his future at Tottenham sooner rather than later so that transfer window search for a replacement can begin as Spurs do require some depth in the central defensive department
as a void will be left in case King decides to call it a day.
