Tottenham Hotspur defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ledley-King-c21859 will be undergoing another knee operation in the summer but that does not mean it will bring an end to his career at White Hart Lane.
The 31-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has been stuck with a chronic knee problem since 2008, which has limited his participation significantly. It was recently worsened during training when he collided with a youth-team goalkeeper and now King will have to undergo yet another surgery over the summer.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed the central defender has been battling with the injury but will still be available for the remainder of the season. He last started against Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 in April and has not yet made an appearance since then.
It is confirmed King will be starting for Tottenham Hotspur in the last game of the season against Fulham, a must-win fixture for the London side. The Spurs are determined to finish at third spot so they can be guaranteed UEFA Champions League football next season.
While usually the team at fourth spot on the table also has a chance to qualify for the European competition, but since http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 are in the final this season and upon winning will automatically claim that spot, Tottenham Hotspur have to be certain to clinch third spot for qualification.
Undoubtedly King does not have as much to offer as when he was fully fit, but Redknapp believes the defender should be rewarded with a new contract for his loyalty to the club. King has been with Tottenham Hotspur since the beginning of his career, making his senior debut in 1998. He has gone on to make 268 appearances in the English Premier League and has scored 10 goals.
Redknapp said in an interview:
“For the sake of the club and the team, he has tried to play on, but he has been playing in pain and his movement's not been as good.
Hopefully, we'll get his knee cleared out in the summer and he will be right again.
I'm sure the chairman (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy) respects everything he has done for the club and we'd love to keep him around.”
