Ledley King to see specialist for persisting injury troubles
Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King, who has factored in only a handful of games this season, is heading to Denmark to visit a specialist for the injuries he has been plagued with all season and for much of his career.
The most recent problem for King has been a strained groin, which he has allegedly been suffering as a result of his inability to train because of problems with his knees.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp confirmed the news on Friday 26 November when he told reporters,
"He's off to see a specialist in Copenhagen to get a decision on what needs doing next, as to whether he feels he can carry on strengthening and trying to get through without having surgery or whether he needs surgery."
Injuries have long been a problem for King, especially his knee which he first injured during a training session some four years ago. Back in 2008 Redknapp said of King's knee injury,
"There's no cure. There's no cartilage, nothing to operate on. It's just bone on bone. He rarely trains, he mostly just goes to the gym to keep himself ticking over. But not running or anything like that. But even if he only plays 20 games a season,
he's worth having because he's so good we have a much better chance of winning."
King has now been out of the line-up for close to two months and there doesn't yet seem to be a timeline for the 30-year-old to return.
"The knee can't improve; there's nothing you can do with the knee," Redknapp said. "That's how it's going to be for the rest of his career."
King's is not the only injury that is giving Redknapp headaches recently as Rafael van der Vaart was unable to play in midweek because of an ankle injury.
