The bruised and battered Australia, on Monday faced a huge blow ahead of their ODI series finale against England, as pace bowling spearhead http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 were sent home with calf injuries.
The Australian team doctor, John Orchard, confirmed today that the duo was unavailable for the final one-dayer against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, and has been sent home for further treatment.
"Shane Watson and Brett Lee have calf strains - Shane to the left and Brett to the right calf,” confirmed Australian team doctor John Orchard on Monday.
“Because both players will miss the final game, they are flying back to Sydney for MRI scans and further treatment,” he added further.
Both Lee, 35, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782, as England won the
match by eight wickets, to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, with one game to go.
While defending a below par total of 200 for 9, Shane Watson, the right-arm medium pacer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834, could bowl only one over before leaving the field with a troubled calf in the 13th over. On the other hand, veteran pacer Brett Lee bowled
2.2 overs before pain in his right leg forced him to go off.
Shane Watson had also sustained a calf injury last year which kept him away from competitive cricket for a considerable period, but Orchard said that his recent calf injury is unlike the last one.
The Australian team doctor was hopeful the duo would be available for selection in September’s World T20 Championship; however, he was not sure about their availability for next month’s limited-overs series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033.
"At this stage, they are anticipated to be available for consideration for selection for the World Twenty20, with scan results and response to treatment to determine whether they will be available for consideration for selection for the coming series against
Pakistan in the UAE."
