Lee-Anne Pace moves down the leaderboard
Ladies British Masters is full of surprises. The most recent one is the second round finish of the South African star Lee-Anne Pace. Currently, she is in the ninth place with a score of 141.
When the first round ended, Pace was tied for the sixth place with a score of 68 points. Given her performance, it was expected that she will further improve her rankings and might reach near the top three positions in the second round.
The second round was not kind to Pace. She saw an early setback. After parring the first three holes, Pace sank a bogey on the fourth hole. This was largely ignored by the fans who were expecting Pace to repeat her first round’s performance.
When she hit a birdie on the sixth hole, the fans assumed that it is first of the many birdies of the round. The front nine was otherwise unremarkable and ended with Pace scoring par on the seventh, eighth and ninth holes.
The back nine was inaugurated with a birdie on the 10th hole. The very next hole saw Pace hitting a bogey. Assuming that it is a minor glitch, the fans and observers moved on to hole 12. Here, she scored a double bogey and technically destroyed
her lead from the first round.
At this point, she must have realized that she is playing an exceptionally bad game. Pace tried to recover her form and scored a birdie on the 14th hole.
Things quieted down after that for two holes. She again scored a birdie on the 17th hole. She ended the round with a par on the 18th hole.
Instead of going up the rankings, Pace slipped down three places. Many experts say that she had a chance to recover on the back nine, but she lost it when she scored the bogey on the 11th hole.
This was the start of the end for the South African player. The real decisive factor was the double bogey on the 12th round. This practically sealed her fate and any chance of retaining her position was lost.
At this point, it is very much possible that she will miss the cut in this event.
