Lee Chong Wei and Hu Yun are set to clash in semi-final: 2011 India Open Super Series
Malaysia’s ace shuttler, Lee Chong Wei and Hong Kong’s Hu Yun will meet in the Men’s Singles semi-final as they have won their respective quarter-final matches of the 2011 India Open Super Series, in New Delhi, on Friday, April 29.
In the quarter-final, Chong Wei showed no mercy to the young Indian, Sourabh Verma, who defeated Kenichi Tago of Japan, in the round-of-16, whereas Yun thrashed R.M.V Gurusai Dutt of India, who proved his worth against Tan Yuhan of Belgium in the pre-quarter-final.
Chong Wei, who started the event in somewhat slow manner, found his momentum in the quarter-final against Sourabh and proved that he belongs to the highest class of the game. The top seed Malaysia made tremendous run in the opening half of the first set
and quickly built a big lead of 11-4.
After the one-minute interval, Chong Wei remained on track by sparing no chance for Sourabh to come back in the game. The world number one finished the first set with a stunning margin of 21-7, in just 12 minutes.
In the second game, the Sourabh tried to match the speed of the opponent, but failed to play positively and made many unforced errors. Chong Wei kept his pace high and played terrific strokes to outclass the Indian in the second game. The top seed grabbed
the second set with a wonderful difference of 21-8, in just 13 minutes. The final score of this one-sided 25-minute match was, 21-7 and 21-8.
In another Men’s Singles quarter-final, Yun proved his supremacy over Gurusai by beating the later in straight games. The Hong Kong shuttler remained far ahead in all aspects of the game in the opening set and finished it up in just 16 minutes with a 21-10
margin.
In the second set, Gurusai played superb badminton in the first part of the second set. The score remained equal at 10-10, where Yun score a point to make it an 11-10 lead. After the interval, the Hong Kong player extended his lead by playing attacking game.
Gurusai failed to play well in the second part of the set and lost it with a clear margin of 16-21, in 19 minutes. The ending score of this 35-minute two-set fight was 21-10 and 21-16.
