Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan to compete in 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series – Badminton News
The most celebrated shuttlers in the world of badminton, Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei and China’s Lin Dan, are ready to participate in the upcoming event of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, set to commence in Indonesia, from June 21.
Chong Wei, who is World Number One player in the Men’s Singles category, will participate in the Indonesia open with the aim to defend his title. For the Malaysian, the Indonesia Open will be his last event before the World Championships, which will be held
in August.
Lin Dan, who is currently ranked at the Number Two position in the Men’s Singles world standings, will be looking for the title in the Indonesia Open, which will be a timely boost to his confidence ahead of the world meet.
The 27-year-old Lin has always been a threat to the supremacy of Chong Wei, as the Malaysian got severe treatment from the Chinese on several important occasions including the final of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The 28-year-old Chong Wei will open his campaign against local shuttler, Tommy Sugiarto, in the opening round of the Indonesia Open. If everything proceeds according to the paper, the top seed will have a quarter-final clash against Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien
Minh, who is the seventh seed in the event.
Chen Long of China and Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand will also compete in the same-half of the Men’s Singles draw. Both shuttlers are expected to put up a good show in the event, as they have the skills to beat the World Number One on a given day.
Chong Wei is in terrific form at the moment, as he has clinched six events this year. However, Lin Dan will be the biggest hurdle in the way of the World Number One.
Lin has a tough round, as he is placed in the same-half in which his team-mate and ruling World Champion, Chen Jin, Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat and Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade will be competing. Lin will fight against India’s P Kashyap in the Men’s Singles
first round of the event.
