Lee Chong Wei becomes the second Malaysian to defend the All England Open title

Lee Chong Wei becomes the second Malaysian in the category of men’s singles who has defended his title in the All England Open Badminton Championship 2011, at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England on Sunday. The first shuttler was Eddy B. Choong
of Malaysia who won the title in 1953, 1954 and again in 1956 and 1957.
Chong Wei won this title for the first time in 2010 by beating Kenichi Tago of Japan in the final, while in 2011 he defeated Lin Dan of China in the final battle of the tournament and shows the world where the balance of power lies now.
Chong Wei delivered wonderful performance in the entire event in Birmingham, as he did not drop even a single set to any opponent. The result of the final was also the same, where the Malaysian defeated the Chinese in straight sets with a 21-17 and 21-17
margin. Lin thrashed Chong Wei just a month back in the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2011, at Seoul, South Korea on 30
January. The Malaysian took timely revenge and levelled the score of 1-1 in the proceeding year of 2011.
This win of Lee Chong Wei means a lot for him and now he is in a strong position to break the deadlock at the Badminton World Championships 2011 and also in the 2012 London Olympics. Malaysia has always been producing world class players, but unfortunately
no Malaysian shuttler has ever won the title in these mega events. Now Chong Wei is expected to win the World Championship which will be held at the Wembley Arena in London, England in August 2011.
Chong Wei’s coach Tey Seu Bock is quite hopeful for the same performance in the World Championships and Olympic Games. He also expressed that the domination of Lin Dan will be under severe threat after the defeat in All England form the hands of Chong Wei,
who is playing at his best.
“I am confident that Chong Wei will be giving Lin Dan a better run for his money after this breakthrough at the All-England. This could be the best year for Chong Wei to end Lin Dan’s domination,” said Seu Bock.
Chong Wei is very happy to beat Lin in the final of the coveted All England Open Badminton Championship 2011.
“And it is extra special to me to beat him for a second All-England title here,” said Chong Wei after winning the match.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia will now work on the coaching issue, as Misbun Sidek resigned from his duties on 31
December, 2010. The current coach of Chong Wei will be considered to perform the duties as a coach of the world number one. BAM will resolve the coaching issue after getting response from Misbun and will take decision in the meeting which will be held
in the first week of April.
