Lee Chong Wei casts Scott Evans out of Men’s Singles event of 2013 India Open
Malaysia’s ace shuttler Lee Chong Wei alarmed all the contestant of Yonex Sunrise India Open by sealing a splendid straight-set victory in the opening round on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.
He was faced relatively a lower ranked shuttler Scott Evans and their encounter lasted for just 23 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-16 and 21-5.
World Number one Chong Wei relished full benefits of his supremacy and kept the opposing shuttler grounded.
On the other hand, Scot Evans could not stand in front of his rival’s experience and aggression and crashed out of the event in a disgraceful manner.
In the opening game, the Malaysian campaigner started with a careful approach and allowed his competitor to remain close on the points table.
However, Chong Wei did not take much time to gain the right momentum and left his challenger far behind.
He prevailed in several consecutive rallies and piled a decent total. His aggressive approach pushed the opposing player on back foot.
He did not show mercy in next couple of rallies and finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11.
After the mid-game break, the Irish campaigner showed some spark and added few valuable points in his total.
It was felt that Scot Evans will give tough time to his opponent in third quarter of the set but then few back-to-back mistakes jeopardised his stakes.
The two time Olympic silver medallist Chong Wei capitalised his rival’s blunders and strengthened his grip over the game. He maintained a convincing lead of five points and won this crucial set with 21-16 margin.
In second set of match, both contenders were poles apart in terms of performance. Chong Wei unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and gained an immediate advantage.
He mounted pressure by registering a decent total without any delay and then magnified the impact with an overwhelming score before interval.
In latter part of the game, Chong Wei looked at his best as he did not give his competitor even a single chance to come back and finished this set with an impressive result of 21-5.
