Lee Chong Wei concentrates on training to win Men’s Singles title at World Badminton Championships
Malaysian badminton sensation, Lee Chong Wei remains focused on his training to clinch the Men’s Singles crown at the World Badminton Championships 2011, which will take place in London, England, in August 2011.
Chong Wei, the ruling world number one, has planned to work on a five-week training session, which he thinks will help him in becoming the first world champion from Malaysia.
Before the world championships, the world’s best shuttler will participate in only one event, which is the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, starting from June 21. Apart from Indonesia Open, the top seed will spend as much time in training as possible.
Chong Wei said, “This is the first time that I can spend a long time in training before a world meet. If all goes according to plan, I will have the best preparation for the world championships.”
In the World Championships, Chong Wei will have to be at his best as the three-time World Champion and ruling Olympic gold medalist, Lin Dan of China, will also be there to clinch a fourth title in the Men’s Singles category.
Along with Lin, Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat and Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade will also participate in the mega event.
Chong Wei added, “I lost to Taufik in the championships last year (in the quarter-finals). Lin Dan may be the main challenger but I will not make the mistake of underestimating others.”
The top Malaysian said that the upcoming event of Indonesia Open, where he is defending champion, will provide a perfect momentum for the World Championships.
Chong Wei knows that all top shuttlers in the world of Badminton will participate in the Indonesia Open as it is a Premier Super Series event, in which the participation of the top 10 shuttlers is compulsory.
Chong Wei, who has already grabbed the title in five international events in the proceeding year, is targeting the World Championships, which will be his career best title, as no Malaysian has ever won this title in the history of the mega event.
