Lee Chong Wei demolishes Boonsak Ponsana to claim Men’s Singles title at Yonex Japan Open
Malaysia’s most decorated shuttler Lee Chong Wei proved his mettle on court as he played to his maximum potential and remained successful in winning Men’s Singles title at Yonex Japan Open 2012 on Sunday, September 23, at Tokyo Japan.
In the final encounter, the top seeded Malaysian player overpowered his lower ranked challenger Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand in a convincing fashion.
Chong Wei, who is currently World Number Two in Men’s Singles category, had to work hard to prove his worth against Ponsana who put up strong resistance on court.
The in-form Malaysian shuttler put up staggering show of flawless badminton at the crucial points and emerged as the winner by ending up the contest in straight games in 41 minutes.
In the meanwhile, Ponsana showed a wonderful resistance as he kept his higher ranked challenger moving around in all areas.
Nevertheless, the Thai player failed to dictate the pace of rallies at the ending points and bowed down to Chong Wei without taking any set.
Chong Wei did not lost even a single game in the whole tournament and remained impressive in the opening points of final match as he set up a reasonable lead at the early stage.
Ponsana, on the other hand, geared up his speed and managed to take a small lead of 11-9 until the break.
After the interval, Chong Wei geared up his speed in all areas and ended the lead of his rival while remaining focused on court.
The Malaysian shuttler was incredible in his fast speed and positive play at the ending points of first game and he finished it off with a 21-18 score on the board.
In the following set, both shuttlers put up attacking show of top class badminton and again were close until the end of opening half.
After the one-minute break, Chong Wei showed his brilliance on court as he did not show any mercy to his rival and took the set with a reasonable margin of 21-18.
Chong Wei won the final battle against Ponsana in straight games with a decent 21-18 and 21-18 score on the board.
