Lee Chong Wei desires Malaysian team to reach in the final of 2011 Sudirman Cup: Badminton News
Malaysia’s Men’s Singles ace player, Lee Chong Wei, desires the Malaysian team to reach in the final of the Sudirman Cup 2011, which is going to kick off from Sunday, May 22.
Malaysia has never made into the finals in the history of Sudirman Cup. However, this time the Malaysian squad has many top shuttlers including the world number one, Chong Wei and world number five pair of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong.
Chong Wei is hopeful that his team will put up a good show in the event.
He said, “It’s time to show the world that we have a united team. Team morale is high and we will do our best to support and push one another to give our best.”
The other shuttlers in the national squad are, Tee Jing Yi, Vivian Hoo, Lydia Cheah, Chan Peng Soon, Wong Pei Tty, Goh Liu Ying, Chin Eei h*i and Hoon Thien How.
Tee Jing, Hoon Thien, Hoo, Chan Peng and Goh Liu will make their first appearance in any Sudirman Cup.
Chong Wei said, “I will try to win a point in every tie so that I can give the team a good start. Koo and Tan also have a good chance to win. We have a fighting chance in other events.”
He further added that Liu Ying and Peng Soon have made considerable improvement in their skills and this event will be a superb experience for them.
There will be a little weakness in the Malaysian squad in the Women’s Singles category. The former top seed of Malaysia, Wong Mew Choo, has resigned from the competitive badminton and now she is performing her duties in the field of coaching.
The females of Russia and Indonesia are more skilled as compared to Malaysia. Chong Wei said that he is hopeful to qualify for the quarter-final without facing much trouble.
Malaysia will play its first match on against Russia on May 23 and against Indonesia on May 25. Both, Malaysia and Indonesia are expected to qualify for the quarter-finals of the event.
